ACT I, SCENE 3 – The Battle
Clara sneaks downstairs to retrieve her Nutcracker. She falls asleep and dreams about Drosselmeyer,
ravenous mice, the Christmas tree growing to gigantic proportions, and the Nutcracker coming to life
and fighting a fierce battle with the toy soldiers against the mice.

ACT I, SCENE 4—Kingdom of Snow
Drosselmeyer’s magic carries Clara and her Nutcracker Prince from the battle into the Kingdom of
Snow, where they are delighted by the waltz of the Snow Queen and King and the beautiful
snowflakes. Finally, Drosselmeyer’s magic sleigh carries them through the falling snow. From here
they are sent off to a new and enchanting place.
