ACT I
The story begins in the Darling household in Bloomsbury, London. The three children, Wendy, John,
and Michael are supposed to be getting ready for bed but instead are playing with the faithful family
dog, Nana. Mrs. Darling enters and instructs the children to get into bed followed by Mr. Darling who is
worried about being late for a dinner party. The children finally calm down and settle in as Wendy reads
a bedtime story. Mother and Father leave for the party.
When the coast is clear, Tinker Bell enters the nursery in search of Peter’s shadow, which he lost while
listening at the window to Wendy telling stories to the boys. Peter enters and tries frantically to catch
his shadow. Unable to do so, he slumps down beside Wendy’s bed and begins to cry.
Wendy awakens to see Peter crying and offers to sew his shadow back on. She is quite taken with Peter
and seems to have a vague recollection of him. Peter invites Wendy to Neverland where she can be the
mother and tell stories to the Lost Children. Meanwhile, Tinker Bell is very jealous and upset with the
attention Peter is showing Wendy.
After accepting Peter’s invitation, Wendy wakens John and Michael who are overjoyed to see Peter and
Tinker Bell in the nursery. All three children have a quick flying lesson and with the help of Tinker Bell’s
fairy dust take off through the nursery window. After flying over London they are off to adventures in
Neverland – second to the right and then straight on till morning!
Neverland is on an island shared by the lost children, Princess Tiger Lily and her Piccaninny-Tribe and
the mean pirates who are led by Captain Hook and the clever crocodile. Peter takes his new friends on
several adventures, the first of which is to Marooner’s Rock to see the magical mermaids. The group
continues on their journey to meet the lost children who are so happy to see that Peter has returned.
The Lost Children, seeing Wendy and spurred on by a jealous Tinker Bell, think her a giant bird and
shoot in her direction with a bow and arrow. Luckily they miss and realize that Wendy is actually a
friend of Peter Pan. Soon they become enchanted with Wendy and ask her to be their mother.
The pirates and Captain Hook see from afar Tinker Bell sad and upset with Peter, and they convince her
to tell them where he is hiding. Tinker Bell tells them without thinking about the consequences. The
pirates and Hook challenge Peter and the lost children to a fight. Dueling with Hook, Peter is almost
defeated when just in the nick of time the crocodile chases Hook away.
